Here Come "The Capes"

Happy Halloween!

Here's the shortest bio of a band ever.

The Capes-they had an EP in the summer called Taste, it did very well. Lots of buzz about the band ensued. They did swell on the CMJ charts, everybody fell in love, including the Dandy Warhols, and Steve Jones. Those everybodys, with Dandy's and Jones, are waiting patiently for their first full length, which is due on November 10th. It's called "Hello." They are a five-piece from Britian. We haven't inspected their teeth yet. We're too busy.

If you like Blur, Super Furry Animals, or XTC to name a few, you'll like The Capes.  Now enjoy some downloads.

You've heard the Tegan and Sara track "Walking with a Ghost" all summer. Now the White Stripes have covered it. Is it more Jack than Meg singing...or more Meg than Jack? Find out for yourself. Let us know what you think.

Wilco/Ryan Adams New Album Details

Billboard reports that Wilco will have an album of new material by early 2006. You have been hearing all about their live set "Kicking Television," which comes out next month.

Jeff Tweedy: ""There's an enormous amount of excitement in the band about the recording."

Pitchfork gives the details on the new Ryan Adams record. It's his third record of the year, entitled 29. He's becoming the Robert Pollard of Americana.

Adams: "It has nine songs, and all the songs are nine minutes long, they're all story-songs. And it's basically just me and a piano, me and a guitar, with [producer] Ethan [Johns]. It's really cerebral."

New South By Southwest Details

"From the White Stripes via the Strokes to Ryan Adams and Norah Jones, SXSW has been the springboard which has launched numerous acts out of the backwaters and into blockbusting status." Scotland on Sunday, March 20, 2005

Billy Bragg

It looks like things are starting to take shape for the 20th year of South by Southwest. The music festivities will open March 15th, 2006 and run through March 19th.

Featured speakers at SXSW in march include Judy Collins, Kris Kristofferson, and Billy Bragg.

Collins was one of the major folksingers of the '60s.

Kristofferson was a very successful country songwriter. His credits include, "Me and Bobby McGee," "Help Me Make It Through the Night," "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," and "For the Good Times." He took a Dylanesque approach to songwriting, changing the landscape of Country music, by writing songs that were more serious in tone. Kristofferson also has been in several films.

Bragg was a leading figure in the anti-folk movement in the 80's. He might be most famous for teaming with Wilco for the Mermaid Avenue records, using unfinished Woody Guthrie works.

Nada Surf Gets Interviewed

Just about every interview featuring Nada Surf (above) has to start out making a reference to that song. You know, the one that proclaimed them to be the next Weezer. The song, "Popular," which may be a curse more than a blessing. It does remind me of that hot cheerleader I wanted to.......well, I'll hold off for another post.

Chartattack interviews Matthew Caws of Nada Surf, who talks about all the Rap he's currently into. Say what?! Should we expect a Snoop Dogg cameo?

Caws is also questioned about blogs.

With the surging popularity of blogs, you often get amateur critics reviewing albums on their personal web journal or whatever. Is there a difference to you between a professional critic and some guy sitting at home in his underwear?
Caws: Often people who are paid to review are better writers. But if you go on blogcritics.com, some of those are really well written. So there really isn't a big difference for us. When I read a bad review, I just think "Oh well, I hope you don't feel that way in two years."

It's a pretty good read. Check it out here.

Download Foo Fighters Doing Oasis-"Lyla"

Photo

The Foo Fighters have been known to play a gig in front of 18,000 fans. Then they turn around and play an intimate club for 200 people on the same night. In those cozy confines, they will do some ridiculous covers. One that sounds pretty good is the Foos cover of the Oasis track "Lyla."
