Around The Blogs-12/31

Largehearted Boy's 52 Books in 52 weeks project finally comes to a close. What a massive undertaking! I'm lucky if I read this stack of magazines I have. Read about his favorites here.

Rocky Votolato Feature-Mp3

The new Rocky Votolato record, Makers is coming out on January 24th, through Barsuk records.

If you think you would like a splash of Ryan Adams, with Elliott Smith's harmonies, you might dig this new album.

Now 28 with two kids, and living in rural Texas, Votolato has came into his own as a singer-songwriter.

Check out the great review Mammoth Press gave for Makers.

New Apollo Sunshine Video

Check out the video for the new Apollo Sunshine single Today Is The Day.

It's a cool little rocker.

We're not sure about the yellow suit though.

Download Nous Non Plus

What's not to like?

Nous Non Plus. Translated, it can literally mean three different things.

“We neither,”

“Neither do we,”

or, literally, “Us No More”

How many bands can boast that?

It's French-pop at it's finest, while being sung in heavy French, or French accents. Somehow it seems to draw you in, no matter what linguistic gymnastics occur.

The appeal carries over on the sole English track "One Night In Paris," which is about our favorite blonde heiress.

Most of the members hail from Paris, and moved to New York a few years ago, where they honed their craft.

There's a reason why Spin Magazine has them on their band du jour feature.

Top 50 Videos of the Year

Docopenhagen has a nice post featuring the Top 50 Videos of 2005.

Read more here.

Here's the #4 video.

The New Kevin Federline Website

I can see the appeal....not really.

I never thought I would see the day where I would post about Kevin Federline two days in a row.

Four times in the last few months. I don't think I've talked about Sufjan Stevens four times in the last few months! Why?!

It goes to show you, that all you need to do to succeed in life-marry a hot woman who's famous with money. People will follow your every move, even if you truly have nothing to say.

Segue into Kevie-Kev's website. Ugh.

It's only one page, with no clickthroughs. Just him with a pic in the right side of the page.

Then you have his greeting:

Hey Everyone,

I don't think we've ever been formally introduced. My name is Kevin Federline. I'm 6 feet tall, have brown hair and brown eyes. I enjoy horseback riding, long walks on the beach and the wind whipping through my hair. Ha ha ha. On a more serious note, there's going to be a lot more information and updates on here in the coming weeks and I think this will provide you with the opportunity to get to know who I really am. Anyway, thanks for checking out my site and be sure to come back often. You can click here to join my email list and also check me out on MySpace.

Kevin

We bristle with anticipation over whatever may arise. Meanwhile, I'll promise to write more about Sufjan.

Muse New Album-Spring 2006

Muse will release a new album in the Spring, according to NME.com

We have yet to hear anything off the new album, or get an album title, which got us thinking.

Wouldn't it be great if a band blatantly stole an album title from another band?

For example, the new Cat Power album is coming out. Maybe Muse could call their album "The Greatest," and absolutely stick to their guns, regardless of the lawsuits.

I believe that would be a first.

While we wait for that scenario to play out, how about one of their best.

USA Today's Top 10/Other Categories

USA Today has chimed in with their Top 10 list.

We're not sure we agree with choices like Neil Young's Prairie Wind at #8 for the whole year.

It is fun to see mentions like these in the article:

Dumb song

Black Eyed Peas, My Humps

Poetic inspiration for a new century: "My humps, my humps, my humps/My lovely lady lumps."

Dumber song

Kevin Federline, Y'all Ain't Ready Mp3*

*thanks Stereogum

Come back, Vanilla Ice. All is forgiven.

Dumbest song

The Crazy Frog ringtone.

Calexico's New Album/Iron and Wine Tour

The Calexico/Iron and Wine tour is going to wrap up soon, and from what we hear, it's been a fun ride.

Several of the indie elite drop by to jam.

In New York, it was Sufjan Stevens.  In Los Angeles, it was bassist Mike Watts, formerly of the Minutemen. James Mercer from the Shins came along in Portland, Ore.

The bands are soon to wrap up playing in North America. In the Spring of 2006, they will play some Europe dates. After that, there are no plans to get back together as the tandem that is Calexico/Iron and Wine.

However, expect a new Calexico record, "Garden Ruin," on April 11th.

Cat Power Dates Announced/New Songs

We are frothing at the mouth, looking very unattractive these days.

Some would say that's nothing new, but this time, we actually have a (semi) legitimate reason.

While waiting for Cat Power's, "The Greatest" to come out next month, we have more songs off the record.

Hear a total of four new tracks off the album at http://www.catpowerthegreatest.com/

Also Cat Marshall will be hosting MTV's "Subterranean" on January 22nd.

About Indieblogheaven

  • Indieblogheaven is a music blog, primarily focusing on indie bands/artists. This may include some americana, pop, punk, or whatever we might like at the time. There might be some pop culture sprinkled in periodically. Mp3s are for sampling only--go out and support the artist, if you like what you hear. If you are the owner of a sound file, and would like it removed, e-mail me, and I'll pull it ASAP. Due to bandwidth issues, mp3's will only be up for a few days at a time each.
