One of the albums nominated (above)
Canada has thrown their hat into the ring, honoring the best album releases of the year.
It's the Polaris Music Prize making it's debut this year, honoring only the best Canadians have to offer.
The list is more surprising than one might think. One thinks first of Nickelback and Celine Dion types, but this list includes Broken Social Scene, The New Pornographers, Metric and Wolf Parade.
Whoever wins will receive a $20,000 prize. It looks like we will find out who wins in September.
Meanwhile, a compilation CD, featuring all 10 artists, will be released in August.
Here's the list of all the nominees.
—Broken Social Scene for Broken Social Scene (Arts & Crafts/EMI)
—Cadence Weapon for Breaking Kayfabe (Upper Class/EMI)
—The Deadly Snakes for Porcella (Paper Bag/Universal)
—Final Fantasy for He Poos Clouds (Blocks Recording Club/Sonic Unyon)
—Sarah Harmer for I'm A Mountain (Cold Snap/Universal)
—K'naan for The Dusty Foot Philosopher (Track & Field/Sony BMG)
—Malajube for Trompe L'oeil (Dare to Care/Outside)
—Metric for Live It Out (Last Gang/Universal)
—The New Pornographers for Twin Cinema (Mint/Outside)

Thanks a TON for the Metric cover of Elliott Smith! I finally heard it via Rhapsody, but couldn't record a decent copy.
