Critically acclaimed artist Richard Buckner is back this week with another great record, Meadow.
The Brooklyn native's eighth piece of Americana is pretty close to flawless, as his swirling melodies and soothing drawl dominate the album.
Buckner's travels have taken his career from his start in San Francisco in the mid 90's, all the way across the country to Brooklyn. He also has used Canada as a backdrop several times over. Hey, everybody needs their Bryan Adams fix every once in awhile.
Buckner recorded his new album in his apartment in New York, sometimes in his own hallway. You would never know it with that great voice. It could masque the fact that he recorded it in a sewer, or had a gun to his head.
The Guardian in 2004 said of Buckner, "There are three kinds of American folk artist: those who sit, contented, on a back porch contemplating America's landscape and ways; those for whom its landscape and ways are something to stand against or move boldly through; and those whose America is a shadowy, impressionistic place that moves inside of them. This [latter] is the area that the sombre-voiced Richard Buckner has been exploring since 1984”
Don't let Buckner's new album Meadow fly under your radar. A stellar release.
