Have you heard the story about Sean Lennon? No, not the one about the famous father, who was killed outside of the Dakota building in New York. Not the one about the mother who may, or may not have broken up the biggest band of all time. This one is a different story. The story behind Lennon's new album, Friendly Fire.
Most stories like this don't end up public. We might hear something like, "Oh, him and Bijou Phillips broke up, and it inspired him to write his new record." That's somewhat true, but we also learned that she slept with Lennon's best friend. Then, before Lennon and his friend could possibly move past the incident, he was killed in a motorcycle accident.
That storyline is the focal point of the new album. That means an album soaked in minor keys that continues on an acoustic, mellow tip.
The album has some highlights, but does get a little too heavy at times. It becomes more of an intriguing listen, if you know the story behind it. If not, it could just fall into the category of "any 'ol record" that's easily forgettable.
