New Page France Track

Page_france_thumb

Page France has released a brand new four song EP titled, Tomato Morning Tour EP. It's an ok collection if you are a fan, otherwise we would advise skipping over it entirely. It really feels like a throw away collection scrapped together until their next release.

We recommend picking up their stellar album, Hello Dear Wind instead.

Robert Randolph Interview

What was the most important thing you learned?

Randolph:Being with a guy like Eric Clapton and hearing about how he first was a regular guitar player and he had never really thought about having this long career. He saw himself as a guitar player and just really wanted to build on that. That's basically how I was at the beginning--just a guitar player. Really, now, I've learned how the guitar meshes together with the song and the vocal idea that you have. It's opened so many [musical] doors. Just having a conversation with him led to "Ain't Nothin' Wrong With That." You got the guitar first coming out, but then you surround the guitar with these vocals and make it big and joyful for everybody. That's one of the things I loved about it: not just playing guitar through the whole thing; having the guitar help you create melodies and a mood. That was the main thing that I learned from working on this album.

Tapes 'N Tapes Discuss 2006

Best tour meal?

Erik Appelwick: The best I can remember would have been in Nottingham, in the U.K.: mixed greens with balsamic vinaigrette, incredible beef stroganoff, and a fresh-baked cheesecake for dessert. By all accounts, this was a complete fluke, because the food in the U.K. categorically sucks ass.

Deerhoof Returns January 23rd

Derhoof

Our favorite San Francisco envelope-pushers Deerhoof are back, with their new release Friend Opportunity on January 23rd.

Expect the usual experimental vibe, but with the bands unique touch of lofty craftsmanship.
The bands direction took an interesting turn after longtime guitarist Chris Cohen departed to focus on his other band, The Curtains.

Now there is an updated sound, focusing on more beat rhythms, and a sweeter vocal delivery from Satomi Matsuzaki.

The results are as good as ever. As Mike Watt (Minutemen) says, "Deerhoof doesn't write songs, they write rivers."

Enjoy the madness.
