The Smithereens Cover The Beatles

For the first time in awhile, I'm not sure what to say. 

On paper, I'm excited about the return of one of my favorite bands in the Smithereens. Plus, who can go wrong with the greatest band of all time, The Beatles being covered, right? Uh.....right?

This is where the music goes from playing strongly in my head to a slow warble.

Cover records are always a tough pill to swallow, because most don't improve upon what you've heard before, and they are seen as the safe way out. Just look at Rod Stewart's last five albums.

It's frustrating to have a band as talented as the Smithereens stoop to this level. They've been off for years, you mean they couldn't come up with any new material?!

It's not that this record is God awful, a good Beatle song is a good Beatle song after all, and it's been awhile since I've heard "This Boy." The word "ordinary" keeps flashing in neon. I just don't hear anything exciting, I hear "this will be in the used bin in two months."
