The National's new track "Fake Empire" off the forthcoming album Boxer due in May, starts out with the usual deep voice of Matt Berninger with just a piano and organ accompaniment. Then the pounding of the bass drum slowly roles in. A subtle ring of guitar pipes off in the distance, as the song builds and builds more as it goes along. The song builds to a climax of a synthesizer horn section, mixed with the real thing, carrying the song to it's finish. An interesting track.

The track, If That's The Case Then I Don't Know from the Electric Soft Parade has a killer, funky stomp, with a crash course in electro blips, and fuzzed out guitar riffs. The track sounds as if it's been sung by Muse's Matthew Bellamy on a sedative. That's not to say it's not good. It's a track that won't leave you for awhile. Watch for the tricky, slowed down ending.

El-P is back, with a slew of guest musicians on his new album I'll Sleep When Your Dead. His underground rap has always been first rate, and this record doesn't disappoint, with his flow actually improving from previous efforts. The Mars Volta, Trent Reznor and Cat Power make guest appearances.

This has got to be one of the stronger albums of the year. Ted Leo's Living with the Living. Does Ted make bad music? I don't think so.
He ranks as one of the more important/influential artists in the indie arena, over the last decade. Not many can swallow that political pill better, while crafting great songs in the process.

Kick down the doors baby, because that smart garage rock band from Chicago is back. As I stated yesterday, these guys give you a sound that's a lot like The Jesus and Mary Chain and Sonic Youth. It's their first release on Matador.

ESP album cover looks at lot like Modey Lemon's A Curious City album from 2005, minus the traffic of course.
