Live Review: Cold War Kids Play D.C.

But what makes the band whole and unique is Nathan Willet’s vocals. They are, indeed, a thing apart, ably conveying the emotional rawness of the lyrics. Willet’s range and vocal control would be impressive enough on their own, but when you add to the experience the fact that it sounds like his voice is getting dragged, kicking and screaming, out from deep down his throat, it's all the more amazing to hear.-Dcist

Neutral Milk Hotel Not Reuniting After All

The Ponys Q & A

Ponys

CHicago Maroon: How’d you hold up during South by Southwest?

Nathan Jerde (Ponys): It was kinda rough. I mean, it’s cool because you see so many of your friends from all over the country and all over the world. It’s kinda fun to hang out with people and see the shows, but it gets to be a clusterfuck, y’know, running around from show to show and doing three shows a day. It gets to be a bummer. You have to question the value.

Chromeo-"Tenderoni" Review

Chromeo

The Montreal, now New York duo Chromeo, have a couple of new tracks out on the Vice Records Blog

I decided to play one of them, Tenderoni, on my Indieblogheaven feature at Noon, Monday-Friday at 106.5 KWOD, yesterday.

I haven't heard this much positive response on a track in a long while. It's immediately addicting. Indie electrofunk that could be compared to some of LCD Soundsystem's stuff.

You haven't done that Beavis and Butthead, "smack that booty dance" in awhile? Well, now's your chance. Make sure to do it in front of your co-workers at your cubicle, or maybe during a staff meeting.

Bjork Slowly Teasing New Record

Bjork

Pitchfork says the Bjork camp have been leaking teasers to the new record Volta, due May 8th.

As one example, this :15 video clip on YouTube showed up entitled "Earth Intruders," which will be the first single. There's no way you can judge the track by that clip. It's too short, and really isn't that good.

A weird Myspace profile with two more bizarre video clips has also came about.

Ooooh...it's just soooo creepy.

This isn't exactly the Nine Inch Nails Year Zero project, but it's mildly intriguing, nonetheless.

Modest Mouse "No Pressure To Be #1"

Isaac

Photo: MTV News

"All I care about is if I'm really happy after writing [an album]. If the cover looks great, if everyone in the band feels like they did as good as we could, if at the end of the day we all believe we put everything into it, then you have to let go of it," he said. "It's not your project anymore. It's done. And whatever happens after that is a distraction and not the part of making records that I'm interested in."-Modest Mouse Frontman Isaac Brock

Bloc Party Frontman Responds To Oasis Diss

Noelgallagherpa_175x125

According to Metro, Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke has responded to Liam Gallagher's diss, as he wrote off Bloc Party as "a band off University Challenge".

Okereke has responded, telling Uncut magazine: "I think Oasis are the most over-rated and pernicious band of all time. They had a totally negative and dangerous impact upon the state of British music."

Okereke also pointed out that Gallagher used the exact same phrase when slamming the band Travis a few years ago.

CocoRosie "Rainbowarriors" Review

Cocorosie_prom_portraitthumb_3

Is that Yoko Ono at the beginning of the track? Ha! I kill me!

It does sound a lot like her, as the intro of the song features a woman singing "Aaaaah white horses."

Things get a little more interesting after that, as the programmed drum beat kicks in.

The track feels like something out of The Neverending Story, floating on air with it's dreamy like delivery from front woman Bianca Casady.

Scratching, bongos and jungle sounds are thrown into the mix as well.

Not sure if I'm feeling this vibe. It seems like it would work well on the Disney Channel or something, which, is of course the norm for this duo, as they have been known to tinker with kids toys a time or two.

Take a listen.
