I talked to Gregg Allman yesterday which was a great thrill. I was told before hand to focus more on his solo career and not the Allman Brothers. When we started the interview, I didn't get that feeling at all. I asked him about his health, where he was completely open. Then we hit topics like his influences, including an unexpected one. Eric Clapton, his run at the Beacon Theatre, and how he hates Rolling Stone magazine for the article that they did on him a couple of weeks back. Interestingly enough, I can't find that article anywhere on their website now. The hatred seems to go much farther than that article from a couple of weeks back though. We also discuss the rumors that he may be fading out of site. Watch the edited interview below with me in studio and him on the phone, or get the full, unedited interview here.
Yeah Rolling Stone is pretty messed up...right before Duane Allman died in 1971, they did an article on the Allman Brothers making them out to look like hillbillies, total distortions of everyone. Then it comes to print and Duane Allman is dead...
Then theres this. They've tried to make it up by putting Duane at his rightful spot of #2 of their 100 greatest guitar players list 6 years ago, but the rest of the list is pretty messed up...
