James Mercer dumped two guys from The Shins because he felt he was stuck in a rut and needed to shake things up. It turns out he didn't need to fire them after all-he's got a new project that could sack The Shins altogether.
Mercer and Danger Mouse have a new project called Broken Bells, and according to Mercer himself, this isn't a one shot and done project. He's in it for the long haul. Gnarls Barkley out too?
Look for it early 2010.
