Richard Pryor, who broke ground for several comedians, died today at the age of 65.
Pryor was arguably the most controversial of all standups. His material was heavily based on racial inequality, which landed him in hot water, on several occasions.
Pryor had several moments in his life that one would rather forget. Strings of marriages and divorces, shooting up his wife's car while drunk in the late 70's, and a freebase incident, which burned 50% of his body.
To Pryor's credit, he often incorporated these and other events into his standup, some moments would go down as his strongest material.
In his career, Pryor ended up releasing 19 comedy albums including standouts like Bicentennial Nigger and Live on the Sunset Strip. He also was in several films, most being a disappointment.
